FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you fabricate lattice by routing designs from sheets of plastic or plywood?

No. All of our lattice is made from individual solid wood sticks that are joined together.

My opening is not the same size as your panels. What should I do?

Most Decorative Lattice Panels (DLP) patterns come in increments of 3.00 inch plus 0.75 inch, e.g. 33.75, 36.75, 39.75. If you need different dimensions sizes, either heights or widths, give us a call or send us an e-mail. We charge a nominal fee for custom sizes.

Do you build Freeform Trellis in larger sizes?

Yes, we can fabricate FreeForm Trellis to almost any size. The panel will be fabricated in sections, and requires simple onsite assembly.

Can I paint my lattice?

Yes, LatticeStix products can be finished just as any wood product intended for exterior use. However, maintenance of painted lattice can be time intensive, so we generally recommend an exterior stain.

How do I attach my lattice?

Depending upon the product, we offer a variety of installation options and hardware. Typical installations include frame mount (within a frame) wall mount (floating on wall), hinges for gates, ground stakes, and post hardware. Check the product info on the product page for more information.

Can I use my own hardware?

Yes, but you will need to machine the screens for you hardware onsite. Because our woods can be corrosive, only use stainless steel or other corrosive resistant fasteners.

What’s the difference between the lattice I buy at home improvement stores and LatticeStix lattice?

Retailers typically sell stapled lathe lattice, rough-cut strips of lathe that are stapled together in squares or diamonds. Our lattice uses top grade, clear dimensional stock that is assembled with furniture quality joints and glue. This allows us to create intricate designs, that are strong and durable enough to last a lifetime, without sagging, bowing, or falling apart. Stapled lathe typically has a rough, rustic look, while our lattice which displays the joinery,  is more suitable for refined applications.

Does your lattice have nails?

Our products do not use mechanical fasteners. Parts are joined together with dowels and/or lap joints, using waterproof glue. Our products will never show unsightly brown spots from rusting nails.

Do you sell full fences? I don’t see them on your site.

We fabricate assemblies for fences and screens including lattice panels/posts/hardware. Because these projects are more complex, we ask that customers call for quotations.

Do you sell lattice made from PVC or PVC/wood blends.

No. These materials are not suitable for joinery.  We try to be good stewards of the earth and avoid petroleum-based products.

Can I use my lattice inside?
Yes. Our panels can be used for room dividers, window shades, or as wall décor. We offer additional wood species and finishes for interior applications.

Will LatticeStix products built with Western Red Cedar match my Redwood, White Cedar, or Cyprus fence?
If left unfinished, all of these woods will weather to grey or dark brown. If you would like a consistent look, then it is best to use Western Red Cedar for the entire fence. Additionally, different species take finishes differently, so without careful planning, mixing woods can create an undesirable effect.

Can my local carpenter build the lattice according to your designs?
All of our designs are protected by copyright law.

Where do you build your products?
All of our products are designed and manufactured in North America. We believe that by staying close to our customer base, we can be more responsive and environmentally friendly.
