Classic Framed Screens Technical Info: Dimensions and Profile

  • Standard sizes are in increments of 3 plus3/4 inch ( 33 3/4, 36 3/4, 39 3/4, etc.). Some patterns do not use this schema.
  • Custom sizes available. Note: We do not 'crop' the pattern for custom sizes. Each gap is adjusted by the same increment, using our automated parts system, for a higher quality end product.
  • Profile: Most patterns use sticks that are 3/4" face and 1 1/2" depth, with smallest opening 2 1/4" (profile 3-6-3). Custom profiles available.
  • Online ordering panel sizes are typically restricted to 16 sq. ft.
  • We can fabricate custom panels to any dimension. Call for pricing.

Technical Info: Woods Species

  • Exterior softwood: Our standard wood specie is western red cedar, a light strong, stable, North American softwood with a range of orange-red-brown colors. It contains natural acids that defend against microbial and insect decay, but like most softwoods, can be dinged and dented.
  • Exterior hardwood:, we use a sapele, which has many of the same visual qualities and colorings as African mahogany. It is strong and stable, and holds up better for high usage applications such as front gates.
  • Interior woods: In addition to cedar and sapele, we can fabricate in most common species including walnut, white oak, and poplar for paint grade applications. Call for pricing and additional species.
  • Call for FSC woods for green projects.

Technical Info: Finishes

We offer three factory applied finishes. Call for custom finishes.

  • Penetrating oil - We use a custom tinted oil manufactured by Penefin, that is zero VOC and is equally good for interior or exterior applications. Old Growth Oil (OGO) tint accentuates the oranges-reds-browns of both cedar and sapele to create a deep, rich, woody color. Can be maintained with re-application of any oil based product. Interior or exterior.
  • Base stain - We offer a translucent stain in both gray and black. The stain does not have the durability of the two step stain, but is perfect for those who want a transition to a natural weathering look. Exterior only.
  • Two step - a tinted glaze is added to the base stain for greater durability and easier maintenance. Available in stock gray and black, a range of custom colors is also avaialble.

Technical Info: Lattice Construction

  • Lattice connections are generally a half lap secured with a blind hardwood dowel and waterproof glue. The half lap creates a decorative joint contrasting stick and and grain and face grain.
  • Lattice is secured within a perimeter frame using mortise and tenon joinery.
  • Our patented Pinlock™ joinery uses a pair of pins to secure the joint securely without the need for glue or mechanical fasteners. It is used for structural railing panels and also DIY kits.
  • Our joinery allows a lifetime of durability in challenging exterior environments.
